Ethernet Switches

Ethernet switches are used to connect multiple computers together to create a network. These switches operate much like hubs except it is a much more intelligent device. They not only transfer the data packets from one computer to another, they also inspect the data to see where it came from and what it includes to help it direct the packet to the correct computer. By sending this information to the correct direction, it lowers the bandwidth and increases the performance rate. Basically, this allows computers to communicate with one another at the same time others are communicating without interrupting each other.
